Hungary fell to Switzerland at the start of the EURA, although many favoured them. It was immediately clear that Germany needed to be fought if the country wanted to consider progressing out of the group.
But that didn’t happen. The Hungarians fell after goals from Musiala and Gündogan and after a 0-2 defeat, it is almost certain that they will face their last game of the tournament. Advancement is rather theoretical in case of a big win in the last game.
However, the match was not without problems. The main referee Danny Makkelie was criticized for judging some moments in the match and literally infuriated the Hungarian coach.
Marco Rossi complained about double standards and said Makkelie blew the whistle on the home team from Germany, who didn’t even need it with their strength.
“Germany doesn’t need the referee’s help. Especially against a team like Hungary. When they play against France, for example, we’ll see if it’s not a foul or if it is this time,” Rossi said.
“The Germans probably would have won anyway, they are stronger than us. But the referee was the worst man on the pitch,” added the experienced Italian coach in charge of Hungary.
