Jiri Prochazka was preparing for his UFC title defense against Glover Teixeira in December, but it won’t happen. The Czech fighter had to withdraw due to a serious injury and will not appear in the tournament.
When he won the UFC championship belt, almost the whole Czech Republic lived his story. He became a publicly known athlete in the country and many were looking forward to his next performance.
Procházka had a defense with Glover Teixeira scheduled for the UFC 282 tournament in Las Vegas. However, the Czech fighter will not be attending.
During the evening it was revealed that serious health complications will prevent him from taking part in the defence. So the Brazilian veteran will not take part in the tournament either.
“Jiri Prochazka dropped out of UFC 282 due to a serious orthopedic injury. The recovery time is estimated at one year.
According to the UFC and Jiri’s representatives, his decision to vacate the belt was out of respect for his other opponents,” tweeted journalist Brett Okamoto.
A one-year layoff sounds really harsh, the closer health of the Czech champion will probably become public in the coming hours or days. The fighter himself has not yet confirmed the information, although there is no doubt about its authenticity.
It should be a shoulder problem. The UFC has already found a replacement for the mentioned fight, the main fight of the tournament will be provided by the pair Jan Blachowicz – Magomed Ankalaev, quite possibly the next opponents of Prochazka.
