Manchester United face a crucial clash on Sunday from 17:30 if they want to challenge for the title. But they will travel to Arsenal without their key man, Casemiro. How will Erik ten Hag cope with that?

Casemiro has had a slow start to his Manchester United engagement, but he has gradually settled into the key player role he was used to from Real Madrid.

The Brazilian footballer turned his skills up to full speed after the World Cup. Manchester United won seven games in a row thanks to his great performances, Casemiro helped with a 1+3 record, but he was especially fantastic defensively.

United kept five clean sheets and conceded just two goals. The 30-year-old Sao Paulo native was hailed by the entire Premier League as one of the best transfers of the summer.

But there was a blemish in the week. United lost for the first time after the break when Crystal Palace drew 1-1 at Selhurst Park only in the 91st minute. But that’s not the biggest problem.

Casemiro received his fifth yellow card and is now facing a suspension. It couldn’t have gone worse for the Red Devils as they face leaders Arsenal in the next round. United, thanks to a great series, wanted to start the chase and they are 8 points behind the Gunners.

Today at the Emirates Stadium they wanted to erase a little bit of the lead, but without a key player on whom the whole Red Devils game is currently based. So the coach ten Hag has practically two options to replace Casemiro.

He’ll have to opt for one of the Scott McTominay-Fred pairing. However, neither of them are definitely up to the quality of Casemiro and when they both played in the starting lineup, they were quite embarrassing for United fans.

Manchester United will thus have to hope that the Brazilian midfielder is replaced in commitment and combativeness by the whole team, otherwise they have little chance of succeeding at Arsenal.
