How much will Barcelona and Real Madrid earn for participating in the Spanish Super Cup?
It’s no longer just a clash between the La Liga champion and the Copa del Rey winner. Thanks to Gerard Pique, who secured a €40 million income for the Spanish federation in exchange for hosting the Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, the format has changed for the Final Four. The champion, runner-up and Copa del Rey finalists take part in this mini-tournament.
Now we can ask ourselves how much money will eventually go to each club. It turns out that the playing field is not level.
FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are guaranteed €6 million each for their participation in the Spanish Super Cup. Bonuses accrue depending on results.
On the other hand, Valencia can get 1.7 million euros and Real Betis only 750,000 euros.
The Sevilla team, of course, did not like this distribution. In December, the club president Ángel Haro spoke about it.
“The distribution is unequal in every way. A change is needed. But it would be illogical to give up playing in the Super Cup. There was no problem on the RFEF side, but it is logical that Real and Barcelona do not protest,” stressed the Betis president.
However, as it turns out, the amount granted to Verdiblancos has not changed, but only doubled the figure for Barcelona and Real Madrid.
“It is not fair that Piqué will earn more than Betis in the Super Cup,” Ángel Haro said earlier this week.
As for the bonuses, they are one million euros for reaching the final and the same amount for winning the final. Not counting the remaining sums for TV rights, advertising, etc., which are being kept secret. In the event of victory, Barcelona, for example, will receive up to €8 million.
