How much did Marie Bouzkova earn from her Wimbledon quarter-final appearance?
Probably few would have thought before the start of Wimbledon that Marie Bouzková would go the furthest in the singles from the Czech Republic. She made it to the quarter-finals, where she fell short to world number two Ons Jabeur. How much did Bouzkova earn with this lifetime achievement?
Probably few would have thought before the start of Wimbledon that Marie Bouzková would go the furthest in the singles from the Czech Republic. She made it to the quarter-finals, where she fell short to world number two Ons Jabeur. How much did Bouzkova earn with this lifetime achievement?
It was Marie Bouzková’s first time in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament. Until now, her maximum was the second round, where she reached this year at the Australian Open (losing to Kanepi 6::2, 7::6) and the subsequent French Open (Mertens advanced without a fight).
But back to Wimbledon. She faced world No. 8 Danielle Rose Collins at the top of the grass court season, whom she defeated in sets 5::7, 6::4, 6::4. She followed that up with Ann Li, whom she allowed just three games.
Bouzkova also met the American in the third round. Alison Riske was already a tougher opponent, but she still lost 2::6 and 3::6. In the eighth round she played against French tennis player Garcia. She beat her after a tough battle 7: 5 and 6: 2.
Then came the quarter-final against the aforementioned Ons Jabeur. The world number two did not enter the match ideally and lost the opening game 6: 3. However, she left nothing to chance in the rest of the match and took the remaining two sets 6:1.
But Bouzkova need not be sad. In the second week of the Grand Slam, she made her first appearance and if she continues to perform like this, she will surely live to see more. However, she may regret the fact that no points were awarded at Wimbledon this year. She could have moved up to 40th in the WTA rankings, which would have improved her career high.
And how much did she actually earn? She received 361,000 euros for the quarterfinal, which is roughly nine million crowns. In the doubles, she reached the second round alongside Mihalíková, for which she received 12.5 thousand euros (310 thousand crowns). In mixed doubles she finished with Marco Lopez in the first round (2350 euros, which is roughly 60 thousand crowns). The total pre-tax profit is almost nine and a half million crowns, which Bouzkova undoubtedly deserves for her performance.
