Barbora Krejčíková surprisingly dominated the French Open, thanks to which she moved into the top 20 tennis players in the world. Thanks to her first Grand Slam singles title, she naturally earned a large sum of money.
It was a breakthrough year for Barbora Krejcikova in singles. Not only did she win her first Grand Slam title, but she also added a triumph in Strasbourg and the final in Dubai.
But let’s go back to the French Open, the highlight of the clay court season. On the courts of the French capital, Krejcikova successively defeated Pliskova, Alexandrova, Svitolina, Stephens, Gauff and Sakkari.
In the final, the twenty-five-year-old Czech Republic’s representative took on Russian player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. After 6:1, 2:6 and 6:4 sets, Krejčíková became only the second Czech (after Hana Mandlíková) to win Rolland Garros.
With this triumph, the native of Ivancice moved up to the seventeenth position in the WTA rankings. At the same time, she came very close to participating in the Tournament of Champions, as only Ashleigh Barty has more points in 2021.
Besides that, however, Krejcikova also earned big money. The French Open winner is set to receive around 40 million crowns. However, this amount is before taxes.
“Next year I have to finish it. Since I won probably the most I could, I think it will be closer to 45 to 50 percent. So I’ll have to send it back there again,” Krejcikova told Radiožurnál Sport.
The final amount will therefore be around CZK 20 million. But Krejčíková need not be too sorry, because money is certainly not the most important thing.
