Gradually, MMA is becoming a more popular sport, and there is a growing interest in the Czech Republic as well. Karlos Vemola can be described as a pioneer of this sport in our country. A total of six Czechs have already tasted the UFC and we will now take a look at their successes and how much money they have made.
6. Viktor Pešta – 5 fights – 1.5 million crowns
Viktor Pešta had his first MMA fight at the age of 20. In 2013 he became GCF champion and got an offer from the UFC. He signed a six-fight contract. He had his first fight in 2014 against Russian Magomed and lost it on points.
In 2015, he won a fight against another Russian, Erokhin, on points. It was his first, but also his last win in the UFC. After that, three straight defeats followed. After losing to Oliynyk in 2017, he retired from the UFC.
For his five-fight career, he earned 65,500 US dollars, which translates to something around one and a half million crowns.
5. David Dvorak – 4 fights – 2.2 million crowns
The interesting thing about this fighter is that he was a chess player before MMA. He had his first fight in 2009. In 2019, he received an offer from the UFC but turned it down because it was a higher weight class. He still got to make his debut in the world’s top competition in 2020.
He wrestled at flyweight and managed to defeat Brazilian Bruno Silva in his first UFC fight. In total, he has a record of 4 fights in the UFC, of which he won three times and lost once. As a result, he has earned $97,000.
4. Karlos Vémola – 6 fights – 3 million crowns
The most prominent Czech personality in MMA is definitely Karlos Vémola, who has been fighting since 2008. During his career he has won several titles in Czech and world organizations. He joined the UFC in 2010.
Karlos Terminator Vémola lost his first fight. He won his next fight against Seth Petruzelli. In total, he underwent 6 fights, of which he won twice and lost four times. After his last two defeats, he decided to quit the UFC.
Still, he has made a significant mark here as he is the first Czech to win a fight in the UFC. He earned $128,000, which we can translate into 3 million crowns.
3. Makhmud Muradov – 4 fights – 5 million crowns
This Uzbek gained Czech citizenship in 2019 and also signed a contract with the UFC. He made his debut in this organization victoriously when he defeated Italo Di Chirico. He had three wins in a row but lost his last fight so far to American Meerschaert. He came away with $221,000.
2. Lucie Pudilova – 7 matches – 5.8 million crowns
The only Czech woman to have competed in the UFC is Lucie Pudilova, who is currently one of the biggest female stars in the Octagon. She made her UFC debut in 2017 as an alternate, but lost the fight.
Two successful fights followed, but then came a string of four defeats that caused her to quit in the best fighting organization. She earned $254,500 for her overall record of 2 wins and 5 defeats.
1. Jiri Prochazka – 3 fights – 17 million crowns
The current UFC welterweight king is also the king when it comes to earnings with this organization. Jiri Prochazka started MMA in 2012 and won his first title in 2013. In January 2020, he signed a contract with the UFC.
In his debut fight, he defeated Swiss Volkan Oezdemir in the second round. In his second fight, he put American Domik Reyes to sleep and claimed a title fight. The latter took place on June 12, 2022, in which he defeated Brazilian Glover Teixeira.
He made history with his title fight win, it is the greatest Czech martial arts achievement. Thanks to these fights, he earned $737,500, almost triple the second place in this ranking. It is 17 million crowns.
