The main groups of European competitions are coming to an end. With only two games left, we are slowly starting to get an answer as to who will be involved in the spring cups. How are the teams from the Czech Republic doing and how much have they earned?
Plzen
The only representative in the Champions League is Viktoria Plzen. Its European journey started in the second preliminary round. The team of coach Michal Bílek defeated HJK Helsinki (2::1 and 5::0), Sherif Tiraspol (2::1 and 2::1) and finally Karabakh (0::0 and 2::1).
Thanks to this, the Westerners won their ticket to the elite. The draw for the Champions League group stages gave them Bayern, Barcelona and Inter Milan. After four games, they are in last place with a 3::16 record, but few expected any greater success.
Plzen earned 15.640 million euros for their participation in the main group of football’s most prestigious competition, to which they added 3.411 million euros for a 10-year coefficient. The total earnings converted into Czech crowns is therefore 461 million. A win against Inter or Barcelona could add almost 69 million more.
Slavia
We have another representative in the European Conference League. Slavia Prague is in third place in Group G. Their chances of qualification were significantly reduced by two losses against Cluj in Romania. How are the Susians doing financially?
The total income of the team from the capital of the Czech Republic so far is 5.123 million euros, which means about 126 million crowns. As with Plzeň, this amount is without income for marketing rights.
However, it can be expected that Jindřich Trpišovský’s team will score points in duels with Ballkani and Sivaspor and its total income will increase even more. In addition, the Susians are still in the fight to qualify for the knockout stages.
Slovácko
The last team to make it through the unpredictable preliminary rounds is Slovácko, for whom this is their first participation in the main group of European competitions (European Conference League). Martin Svedik’s team is currently in fourth place, but is only one point away from qualification.
The team from Uherské Hradiště has already earned 4.2665 million euros, which is a very important income for the club. Converted into crowns, this amounts to just under 105 million.
As has been the tradition in recent years, Sparta Prague has already dropped out in the preliminary rounds. It received 100,000 euros for participation, and another 350,000 for elimination. In total, the team of owner Daniel Křetínský earned 11 million crowns.
