Conference league
How does Jindřich Trpišovský evaluate the match against Union Berlin and who does he want in the next stage of the ECL?
Slavia Prague did it! For the third time in the last four seasons, it will be in the spring stage of the European Cups. In the last match of the regular group of the European Conference League, they were not allowed to lose to the sixth team of the Bundesliga. They drew 1-1 with Union Berlin and can look forward to the spring part of the competition.

In a match against a physically fit opponent, the Susians got everything they needed. All the players on the pitch did their best, worked and fought for each other. In addition to that, the Slavia implementation team showed how to apply valuable experience!
Jindřich Trpišovský and his close colleagues came up with a 3-5-2 formation. Every time Slavia tried this formation in the past, it didn’t turn out well at all.
This system was used in the first half at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, or in Israel against Be’er Sheva, or against Bayer Leverkusen in Bayern Arena.
If you search your memory, you will realize that it never really worked out. But in Berlin it was a slightly different 3-5-2! Slavia dominated tactically, Union Berlin more or less didn’t let anything happen.
This is an example of how partial failures can move strong teams and strong individuals ever forward in the long run. If Slavia continues to step up their performance and their players get healthy, I’m not afraid to say that they will stick around for a while in the spring part of the Conference Europa League.
Jindřich Trpišovský’s assessment for the club’s website
“It was two tough games against Union. I am proud of the boys, it was not an easy situation. We came here without a lot of players and on a difficult terrain. We played great defensively in the first half and we improved offensively in the second half. A mature performance.”
“Tactically, it was one of the best performances we’ve ever given. There was a lot of respect from Union after Leipzig. Apart from one standard, I don’t remember us falling down defensively. I’m very happy, I haven’t had this feeling for a long time.”
“It’s hard to compare. You have to leave two teams behind. Feyenoord, Union and Haifa played great against us. This group was maybe harder than in other competitions we’ve played. This way, in the emotions after the game, I would probably say it’s the hardest progression.”
“If the fans are there, I would like Fenerbahce, where the atmosphere is great. I like to get to know new stadiums and there are a lot of teams we have met in Europe.”
