The start of the Premier League is fast approaching and slowly knocking on the door. Thefirst game will be played in ten days’ time, and that’s the perfect time to see how the clubs from the second tier have strengthened for the battle with the elite.
Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town. These are the three promoted clubs who will be playing amongst the best clubs in England for at least the coming season. Quite logically, these clubs are more suited to the role of fighting for salvation, but they will certainly make every effort to finish as high as possible.
After the promotion itself, the ideal team reinforcement is also in place. So what new faces will wear the jersey of the advancing clubs?
Burnley
Vincent Kompany’s charges have secured promotion in an absolutely dominant manner with 101 points and only three defeats from forty-six games.
Burnley are definitely the most active club in the transfer market with nine new signings. They have already spent almost 70 million euros on reinforcements. The most expensive item on the list of arrivals is Swiss striker Zeki Amdouni. The 22-year-old striker had a successful year individually at Basel, scoring 12 league goals and assisting 5 more.
His transfer cost almost 20 million euros. The second most expensive signing was English goalkeeper James Trafford. He arrived from Manchester City for 17 million euros. In his case, it will be a huge jump, because he spent last season on loan at third division Bolton.
The top three reinforcements are completed by central defender Jordan Beyer, for whom Borussia Mönchengladbach will pay 15 million euros. The German defender already played last season at Burnley. However, it was a loan deal with an option to buy, which has now been exercised.
The club also added defender Dara O’Shea, striker Michael Obafemi, Luca Koleosho. The club spent a total of another €15 million for these three players. Nathan Redmond and Lawrence Vigouroux have also arrived as free agents.
Another interesting signing is Jacob Bruun Larsen. The 24-year-old winger will join Burnley on a one-year loan.
Sheffield United
In the case of the second promoted team, it is not such an interesting transfer window. Sheffield only brought in three players.
The most expensive item is Bénie Traoré. The 20-year-old striker from Ivory Coast has impressed with his performances in the Swedish league, scoring 12 goals in 14 games played this calendar year. His former employer will receive just under €6 million.
The other signing, twenty-two-year-old central midfielder Anis Slimane, has also arrived from the north. The Danish side Bröndby IF received less than three million euros for him. For now, the last arrival is left-back Yasser Larouci. The 22-year-old also comes on loan from the second French league for the time being.
Luton Town
Luton only secured their promotion in the playoffs. You could say that their participation in the Premier League is also because of their small stadium a sensation that has gone around the world.
Luton Town didn’t spend crazily in the transfer market either and focused mainly on the defensive ranks. They spent just under 17 million euros split between four players. The transfer of left-back Ryan Giles from Wolves cost less than 6 million euros.
Another less than 4 million euros went to Barnsley, where central defender Mads Andersen came from. Defensive midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, who spent last season on loan at Luton, joins the club permanently after Luton Town exercised their option for a permanent transfer.
Also joining the club are former Manchester United great Tahith Chong and wing-back Chiedozie Ogbene, who joins on a free transfer.
