Barcelona have the money, according to Marca newspaper, but their biggest problem is La Liga Financial Fair Play. For this reason, its room for manoeuvre in the transfer market is small.
If it is possible to bring in Ferran Torres, it is only because certain factors make it possible. The first is the departure of players from the first team. Sergio Agüero recently announced the end of his playing career due to heart problems.
After his departure, the Catalan big club can register Dani Alves. In fact, the Brazilian earns much less than the Argentine, so the club can spend part of the saved amount on Ferran Torres’ salary.
Yusuf Demir and maybe Luuk de Jong will also leave the team in the coming days. This will make the registration of the Manchester City winger possible.
Two other issues are important for the success of this operation. Barcelona is constantly working on a deal with new sponsors. Contracts with them will increase the club’s revenue, which will also increase the first team’s wage spending limit. Barcelona will thus not be able to worry so much about Financial Fair Play.
The player’s salary and transfer amortization are included in the salary cap. It will be €11 million a year if the deal is closed at €55 million plus bonuses.
Furthermore, Ferran Torres will not earn any staggering sums. The player is aware that the club cannot offer him a lucrative contract, but the opportunity to play at Camp Nou is more substantial for him.
