The summer cup matches at Slavia didn’t go as expected, Sparta did what they had to do. How are their opponents from the preliminary rounds doing now?

Rapid Vienna

Rapid first beat Sparta 2-1 at home, but lost 0-2 to Pavel Vrba’s team at Letná and dropped out of the Champions League preliminary rounds. They had to fight their way into the Europa League through two preliminary rounds. They knocked out Anorthosis from Cyprus after 3:0 and 1:2, and managed to beat Zorya from Ukraine with two wins (3:0, 3:2).

In the Europa League they got a very attractive group. Genk, Dinamo Zagreb and West Ham. After three rounds the Hammers are in first place with 9 points, all other teams have 3 points. Dinamo is second, Rapid is third by a score and Genk is last due to a score of 1::6.

However, the Austrian team is not doing well in the league. Last year’s runner-up is only in sixth place after 13 rounds and is already 19 points behind the first-placed Salzburg. On the other hand, only 7 points separate them from second-placed Sturm Graz.

AS Monaco

After advancing past Sparta, Monaco played Shakhtar in the play-offs, but fell short after 0:1 and 2:2. In the Europa League, they are in a group between PSV Eindhoven, Real Sociedad and Sturm Graz, and after three matches they are first in the table with 7 points.

In the league, however, it’s not great yet either. Last year’s 3rd team in Ligue 1 has collected 17 points in 12 rounds and is clinging to 10th place in the table. However, it must be said that the differences are not very big, Rennes is 2 points behind the fifth place, Monaco is 6 points behind the second place Nice.

Ferencváros

Slavie’s victor in the next Champions League preliminary round was not enough for Young Boys. However, they got a very attractive group in the Europa League in the form of Leverkusen, Celtic and Real Betis. Attractive, but difficult, because Ferencváros hasn’t got a point in 3 rounds and is last with a score of 2::7.

They are second in the league with 22 points behind Kiswardas, but have a game in hand.

Legia Warsaw

Legia shot through Slavia to make an interesting Europa League group stage along with Leicester, Napoli and Spartak Moscow. And, perhaps a little surprisingly, they top the table, having beaten both Leicester and Spartak Moscow, losing only to Napoli. Despite a negative score of 2::3, Napoli is second with 4 points, Leicester is third with 4 points.

But in the league it’s a different story. Last year’s champion is struggling unbelievably, with only 9 points in 11 games for 3 wins and 8 defeats, and is only in the crazy relegation 16th place. Only Warta and Leczna are worse off.
