Zdeněk Houštecký, assistant coach of Jindřich Trpišovský, has already got used to great success in Slavia. However, he is definitely not enough and would like to reach the top.
Houštecký is extremely passionate about football. You often see him flying, jumping and going crazy between the benches, but he will never change at the age of 50.
He is relatively unpopular with his opponents, but at his own club they can’t afford him. He gives absolutely everything to football, he would cut his teeth for his charges. Last year, his legendary scene in the TV studio, when he almost cried after the turn with Sevilla, was circulating on the Internet.
At Slavia, he has already won three league titles, two cups, played in the Champions League and reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League twice. So what is the next motivation of the management team?
“I never had any coaching dreams because I never expected to coach. First there was the Europa League, when we were knocked out by Chelsea. Then we were in the Champions League, that’s different, the level is really huge. Last year we were in the quarter-finals of the Europa League again and you have it in your head that you want to win that European trophy.
For me it’s a big dream to win, I won’t say the Champions League, because it’s probably not possible in our conditions, but I think the team and the way we do it, with a bit of luck we can win the Europa League. That would be the top,” Houštecký told the club’s website.
The seemingly foolish goal may not be that far from reality. Slavia reached the quarter-finals of the competition last year, where they drew 1-1 at Arsenal in the first leg and would have made it through to the semi-finals in the event of a goalless draw in Eden. However, by the rematch, the Seychellois defence fell apart and their hopes were over.
Of course, it would have taken a huge amount of luck, but Slavia have managed to surprise many big opponents in the past.
