Manchester United finally have their striker. From Atalanta they brought in Rasmus Højlund, a young talent who has been compared to Erling Haaland. But the Danish footballer has Cristiano Ronaldo as a big role model.
Cristiano Ronaldo has never been afraid of saying what he thinks of himself. He has always considered himself the best footballer in the world and had no problem saying so publicly.
Many people resented him for this because they considered him arrogant. However, he has inspired thousands of young footballers who today call Ronaldo their idol.
Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Marcus Rashford, Matthijs de Ligt, João Félix, Harry Kane, Vinícius, Mason Mount and many others have already admitted that Ronaldo was their role model as children.
And Manchester United have just brought in another big Ronaldo fan. In fact, in his first interview with the club’s website, Højlund opened up about his admiration for the Portuguese phenomenon.
“There is an interview of Ronaldo with Anderson and Ferdinand where a reporter asks them who is the best footballer in the world and Cristiano simply said “me”. I like that mentality. That’s the same mentality I’m aiming for,” Højlund said.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is my idol. Because of him I started watching the Premier League and Manchester United,” the Danish striker added.
Højlund certainly hopes he can do as well at Old Trafford as his Portuguese idol. Although perhaps with a slightly better ending.
