Leverkusen had a great season and will want to build on it in the one that is about to start. Adam Hložek, who is the new signing of the club, where Czech striker Patrik Schick is on a rampage, will help them to do so.
Bayer officially kicked off the season on Saturday when they took on Elversberg, a newcomer to Germany’s third highest competition, in the cup. Both Schick and Hložek appeared in the starting lineup.
However, the match did not start well for the Bundesliga side. Elversberg took the lead in the third minute. In the fifth minute, however, Adam Hložek came through to level the game at 1-1.
It was Hložek’s first goal in his new jersey. He played in a couple of preliminary matches, but did not make an impact. However, he didn’t “stick” too well to Schick either.
However, Elversberg scored his second goal in the 17th minute to take the lead for the second time in the match. But he didn’t hold on for long. In the 30th minute, Charles Aranguiz tied the score at 2-2. Seven minutes later, Elversberg regained the lead.
In the 74th minute, the team from the third league even scored a fourth goal and was already up by two goals. However, Patrik Schick reduced the score in the 89th minute. However, no further goals were scored and Leverkusen surprisingly finished the competition.
