On Friday lunchtime, the Bundesliga published the schedule for the upcoming season. It will kick off on August 5 and there will already be plenty to look forward to in the first round. This year’s edition will be all the more interesting with Jiri Pavlenka returning to Germany’s top competition and Leverkusen being reinforced by Adam Hložek.

Although it remains overlooked and devalued by some people, the Bundesliga is still one of the best European leagues. For football fans from the Czech Republic, it should be even more attractive because several of our players are playing in it.

This season, Vladimír Darida and Pavel Kadeřábek will be playing in the top German league as usual, and there will be no shortage of familiar faces like Patrik Schick, Jiří Pavlenka and newcomer Adam Hložek. Tomáš Ostrák and Tomáš Koubek will fight for their place. The arrival of Alex Kral is also in play.

And already the first round has prepared for all our representatives a tough fight. Leverkusen, with Adam Hložek and Patrik Schick, will face Borussia Dortmund, probably the biggest rival in the planned assault on second place.

It could be a spicy duel for Hložek and Schick, as Dortmund were expected to make a play for both players.

Jiri Pavlenka returns to the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen after a one-year break. And the start won’t be easy at all, as well as trying to hold on. In the first round Werder will face Wolfsburg, followed by duels with Stuttgart, Dortmund and Frankfurt. In the seventh round, Pavlenka will face Hložek and Schick in goal.

Vladimir Darida can look forward to a very spicy league start. His Hertha side will play the Berlin derby against Union right at the start. Moreover, he may not be the only Czech in his team, as Hertha should be involved in the fight for Alex Kral.

Hoffenheim will also have a difficult start to the season. Pavel Kadeřábek can look forward to having his abilities tested in the first round by the stars of Borussia Mönchengladbach, who will be looking to make amends for last season’s failure.

Tomas Ostrak and his Cologne side will welcome back the famous Schalke to the elite. Ostrak could have a crucial season ahead of him, as he could get a bit more opportunities in the A-team and it will be up to him to make his mark. He certainly has a chance.

Tomas Koubek remains the only Czech in Augsburg from the new season. Jan Morávek’s contract has expired. However, Koubek is not the number one in the team and it is questionable whether he will get another opportunity. His team will start the season with Freiburg.
