Bayer Leverkusen pulled off one of the biggest surprises in the Bundesliga over the weekend, depriving Union Berlin of the top spot. Adam Hložek was a big part of that, and he has now been rewarded.
They finished third last season but are still looking for it this season. There has been no weakening of the team. A strong and talented squad managed to stay together and it could be said that Leverkusen had all the ingredients to be among the top of the Bundesliga again this season.
However, the opposite is true and even the change of coach has not yet borne the desired fruit. Xabi Alonso hasn’t put his stamp on the team so far and Leverkusen have lost two games under him.
However, Bayer showed their mettle on Sunday and destroyed the current table leader on home soil. Union Berlin went to the German capital with a 5:0 drubbing. Adam Hložek had a big part in this, as he confirmed his improving form.
He scored a beautiful goal and also had an assist. He was one of the best players of the whole match. The goal was his first ever in the top German competition.
Now he has been rewarded by the prestigious statistics website Sofascore by being named in the best Bundesliga eleven for the past round. And deservedly so. It gave him a mark of 8.2.
There are only four players in the entire eleven with a higher mark than the Moravian striker. Specifically, Christopher Nkunku, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Moussa Diaby and Mitchell Weiser.
It is worth mentioning that Leverkusen ensured Bayern Munich’s return to the top of the Bundesliga. Moreover, Leverkusen took the important three points to leapfrog the last two teams in the table and are currently in 14th place.
