Bayer Leverkusen have a talented squad at their disposal and one of their biggest stars is now Jeremie Frimpong. Manchester United are believed to be interested in him. But it could be a risky move for both sides.
Jeremie Frimpong is having the season of his life. At 22 years old, he is a key player for Bayer Leverkusen and, not counting the world class talent in Florian Wirtz and the long wanted Moussa Diaby, it is the Dutchman who is the German club’s biggest gem.
The footballer, who is capable of playing on the right side of defence and midfield, also made the Dutch national team’s nomination this season when he travelled with the team to the World Cup in Qatar, but did not play there.
However, he is doing well in Leverkusen. At least on the offensive end. He’s already scored 8 goals and added 9 assists. His name is becoming more and more famous. No wonder he’s getting interest from bigger clubs. One of them is the famous Manchester United.
According to Sky Germany, the first negotiations with the English club have already started. The price of the player is currently being discussed. Leverkusen are apparently demanding 40 million euros, which is more or less a price that matches his quality.
After all, Transfermakt also estimates Frimpong’s value at €35 million. However, one wonders if the player is ready for such a big move. Moreover, a lot depends on what position Erik ten Hag wants the Dutch player for.
While Frimpong is fantastic going forward, he just doesn’t excel that much defensively. Moreover, it is questionable whether he can apply his offensive skills in the Premier League.
The Leverkusen star may already have experience of island football, having come through Manchester City’s youth system and spent two seasons at Celtic in Scotland, but that is no guarantee.
Moreover, Manchester United have already seen in the case of Jadon Sancho that if a player is excellent and productive in Germany, that may not be the case in England. Fortunately, however, the price tag for Frimpong is much more favourable. However, this is a move that, if it doesn’t work out, could put a nasty damper on the Dutch footballer’s burgeoning career.
