Patrik Schick recently signed a new long-term contract at Leverkusen. Adam Hložek, who comes from Sparta, also signed a long-term contract with the club. Both of them did so also because Bayer promised them great ambitions and an effort to keep the team as strong as possible. But now sporting director Simon Rolfes has said that one star could leave.
Bayer Leverkusen finished third last season and secured a place in the Champions League, which is of course great news for our football. The reason is simple, there are two players from the Czech Republic in the team.
Patrik Schick, who scored one goal after another and broke several club records, played a big part in Leverkusen’s great season last year. There was interest in him, the world media linked him with European giants, but he signed a new contract.
He cited the club’s ambition and commitment to try and keep their biggest stars so that ambition could be fulfilled as one of the reasons he decided to sign. Adam Hložek gave a similar reason for his move to Leverkusen.
But already this summer, one of Leverkusen’s biggest stars could leave. Moussa Diaby has had the season of his life and was one of the key players in the club’s Champions League journey. He has scored 17 goals and added 14 assists in all competitions.
Moreover, Diaby is still only 22 years old. Leverkusen acquired him three years ago for €15 million from PSG, now his value is estimated at €60 million according to Transfermarkt and that is also the amount Leverkusen will demand for him.
“I’m optimistic about him staying with us next season. However, when clubs with incredibly large financial possibilities bid for such a player, we have to sell him at some point,” the club’s sporting director Simon Rolfes let Sky Germany hear.
