In a relatively calm pace, the Swiss team walked their way to a win over Great Britain. Most of the important situations were directed by the biggest Swiss NHL stars – Hischier, Josi, Fiala and Niederreiter.

The Swiss, who last beat Great Britain 3-0, lead the World Cup Group A table with eleven points. The newcomer to the championship is last with zero points.

The favourite decided the game in the opening period, when Czech forward Fiala missed a penalty shot in the second minute, but Nico Hischier and Dean Kukan scored before the first siren sounded.

It was the sixth point (4+2) for the New Jersey star in the championship. Hischier is now fourth on the productivity chart. His captain and defensive partner Roman Josi leads the way with eight points (2+6). He recorded two goals against the British.

Kevin Fiala also had two assists

Nashville’s second assist was on the third and final goal of the night, scored in the second period on a power play by Nino Niederreiter. The experienced Winnipeg forward is now on four points (2+2). The championship is going well for the Swiss overseas reinforcements so far.

Kevin Fiala assisted on the first and third goals. The Los Angeles goal scorer brought his comfort from this year’s NHL season to the national team, where he scored 29 goals and added 44 assists in the regular season for the Kings.

The last 20 minutes of the game were essentially over and nothing changed the final result. Historically, this was the second time the Helvetian Cross won against the British at the World Championship.

Denmark will be Switzerland’s next opponent on Saturday. The beaten Brits will play the Danes for the chance to play the elite group at the World Cup next year on Friday, also against the Danes.
