Utrecht head coach Henk Fraser quits after a training incident. The 66-year-old coach decided to resign himself after he caught German footballer Amin Younes under the throat.
Henk Fraser is the former footballer who left the biggest mark at Feyenoord. He also played for the Dutch national team and took up a coaching role after his career ended.
There he has tasted a lot, including being an assistant with the national team. Since 2022, the Suriname native has been Utrecht’s head coach.
With this he won the seventh place in the top competition in the autumn. However, someone else will lead the club in the spring. Fraser has decided to resign, and the reasons are understandable.
The experienced coach lost his nerve in training and caught twenty-nine-year-old German footballer Amin Younes under his stride.
“Henk Fraser is leaving FC Utrecht with immediate effect. The reason is an incident last Saturday on the training ground in Utrecht. The head coach has informed the management that he has realised he has crossed the line and is resigning from his position,” the club announced on its website.
“This has never happened in my coaching career. It doesn’t suit me, it doesn’t suit the club. I have hurt the club, which is a pity for everyone, including me.
That’s why I have decided to step down as head coach. I don’t recognise myself in my behaviour and I would like to apologise to everyone,” said the coach himself, who can now look for a new job.
