A very exciting duel ended positively for Jindřich Trpišovský’s charges. Slavia Prague needed to defeat Polish Raków at home to qualify for the next stage of the European Cup, i.e. for the basic groups. They accomplished their mission when Ivan Schranz scored the winner in the last minutes. How is the public reacting to Slavia’s progress?

I am well aware of what is at stake – these were the exact words used by coach Trpišovský before the return match against Polish Raków. However, Susi’s opponents showed in the first half that they were far from coming to Eden just to defend, and their players managed to create dangerous chances.

However, the first half ended goalless. The Slavs produced two shots on the opponent’s goal during the opening act, while Rakow, despite their activity, had only one.

The second half was clearly better from the side of Slavia and they were also the better team on the pitch, which is again evidenced by the statistics themselves. Higher percentage of ball possession and number of shots on goal – 7::0 for the Susians.

The home fans were cheered in the 62nd minute by Moses Usor, who, after Schranz’s pass, shot through everything in his way – 1::0 for Slavia. However, no more goals were scored in normal time, but Slavia’s players showed a great team performance.

The decisive goal was finally scored by Schranz, who got the ball into the net in the 120th minute, at the very end of extra time, after a fluffy centre by Peter Olayinka.

Public reaction

The striker with the number 26 on his back is a real hero. The Slovak striker not only made all the Prague Slavia fans happy and is already a decent sporting achievement for the Sešiovans, Schranz literally shot Slavia 72 million CZK.

It is therefore clear that not only the fans of Slavia, but practically the entire football public will now send only superlatives to Schranz.

However, we must not forget that Schranz was sent on by Slavie coach Jindřich Trpišovský in the 56th minute. Schranz replaced David Doudéra in the lineup. You can see the reaction of the well-known journalist Michal Kvasnica in the above Twitter post. Below, Jaromír Bosák congratulates both Slavia and Slovácko.

Another well-known journalist Luděk Mádl also added his commentary on Slavia’s progress, the goal in the 120th minute and the rematch in general. Slavia has once again reached the preliminary groups in the European Cups and will know the names of their opponents on Friday 26 August.

That is when the draw for the groups will take place, and UEFA has set the kick-off time at 14:30.

The comment below probably doesn’t even need a comment, although in this case it is a classic fan cliché. Many athletes have heard the phrase “to the Castle”.

After Viktoria Plzeň, who managed to beat Karabakh 2-1 on Tuesday 23rd August, Slavia and Slovácko are the third team to play in the European Cup groups in the spring phase of this season.

The Moravian side defeated AIK Stockholm 1:0 in their return leg when Vlasiy Sinyavskiy scored in the 76th minute.
