Ole Gunnar Solskjaer certainly can’t be happy with the performance of his charges at home against Villarreal.
Especially in the first half, Manchester United had a lot more luck than sense. He could thank David de Gea for some excellent saves that kept the English side in the game, and Villarreal for their poor productivity, with players missing the target several times in good positions.
The Red Devils defence looked like it was having an open day. They made mistakes, they didn’t look the least bit solid. Names like Varane and Lindelöf didn’t get the quality of their names.
When Villarreal took the lead at the start of the second half, it wasn’t much of a surprise. Paco Alcácer came through. But Manchester United’s performance went upwards after that. A few minutes later, Alex Telles equalised at 1-1.
The game was then decided in the 95th minute by Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored three important points for the English team. It is no wonder that the fans celebrated him properly.
After two Champions League matches, Manchester United are in third place in their group with three points. In the first leg, they lost to Young Boys Bern.
