Club football was back after a two-week break and PSG had a tough test ahead of them in the form of a match against Olympique Lyon. The match was not a good one and Lyon won 1-0. Before the match, however, the whistle was blown on the Parisian club’s best player this season.
Lionel Messi has been the target of criticism since PSG dropped out of the Champions League. Now he has also been booed for allegedly making contact with Barcelona, where he could return in the summer.
The behaviour of the PSG fans was witnessed right at the stadium by the legendary Thierry Henry, among others a former teammate of the Argentine world champion from the Catalan club. And the former French footballer had his say on the situation.
According to Henry, Messi does not deserve criticism. “It’s almost embarrassing to hear such booing at the Parc des Princes. You can’t boo one of the best players in the team who has 13 goals and 13 assists in the league this season alone,” he told Prime Video.
Among other things, Henry gave his former teammate clear and specific advice on his future moves. He advised him to leave Paris.
“Personally, I would like to see him finish his career at Barcelona. I don’t know what he will do, but the way he had to leave Barcelona after all he did for the club… I didn’t like it at all. For the love of football he should go back to Barcelona,” Henry added.
PSG may thus be in for a tough summer as they will have to rebuild their squad whether Messi signs a new contract at the club or not. Despite signing a new deal in the summer, the future of Kylian Mbappé is also still being addressed.
