Monday’s football programme features Hellas Verona and Lazio Rome. Both teams are extremely motivated to succeed, the home team wants to get closer to salvation, the away team wants to keep the TOP 4 guaranteeing the Champions League.
Hellas caught a decent form in January, losing only one of the last five league rounds. However, they are still on the relegation places and have had an easy draw so far. From 18th place, they are five points behind the relegation zone and have one game in hand.
Lazio Rome are also doing relatively well. They are four rounds without a loss in Serie A and would like to qualify for the Champions League. This year, it is only playing in the Conference League. They are fourth in the table, but only a point ahead of sixth-placed Atalanta.
Hellas’ key figures
The home side rely on experienced striker Kevin Lasagna, but the Italian marksman has only scored twice and assisted once so far. On the wing, Serbian international and the team’s most productive player Darko Lazovic, author of three goals and three assists, is angry.
Lazio’s key figures
Lazio still have club legend Ciro Immobile. The top scorer in Italy for the last five years has eight goals and five assists this season. Brazilian winger Felipe Anderson has the same record.
The team’s three-goal top scorer is a clear predictor of a generally weak attack. With 18 goals scored, Hellas have him fourth worst in the league, scoring more than once in only two of their last 17 games.
And it will be tough against Lazio. The Roman side has the second best defence in the league with 16 goals scored, Napoli is only one goal better. The Eagles have scored only twice in their last five games, having already beaten AC Milan, AS Roma and Inter Milan on the season.
Considering the visitors’ well-functioning defense, the goalscorer factor of Immobile and the dysfunctional Hellas offense after the departure of mainstays Giovanni Simone and Antonin Barak, I think Lazio will win.
