Olayinka’s last year was definitely not his best since coming to Slavia. While he didn’t disappoint numerically, his performance was worse. His tackles and overall strength in one-on-one battles, plus his graceful movement with the ball, completely disappeared from his game.
Olayinka’s typical active pressing was retained, yet many Slavia fans thought he was not playing to his full potential and was sulking because his transfers to Denmark and Turkey in the summer and winter had not worked out. Footage from Slavie’s YouTube channel refutes his “disinterest in the club”.
The Sešiovans have documented their progression through Raków Czestochowa to the Europa League group stage. The 20-minute video starts with Olayinka encouraging his teammates after the 1:2 loss in Poland.
“We have to fight in the rematch. We love each other. Let’s not give up guys, we are one team. We will make it through the next game and we will be proud of ourselves, I promise you that. Guys, we are Slavia, we will do it.”
Olayinka started the home rematch on the bench, partly because Sšiovans went into the game with a three-man defence and ex-Boleslav players David Jurásek and David Douděra at wing-back.
One of the team’s captains came into the game in the second half, gave a fighting performance and especially assisted Ivan Schranz on the goal in the 121st minute. He made a big splash with the Slavia fans this week, also thanks to a motivational speech in the booth.
