A heart attack qualifying – this is probably how one can interpret Saturday’s performance in Saudi Arabia at the Jeddah circuit. The fans witnessed red flags and the stoppage of qualifying twice, but apart from the crashes, the race also produced many shocking results!

The first part of the qualifying session came as quite a shock indeed, with Lewis Hamilton failing to progress and starting the race from the back of the grid. As well as the unexpected result, however, spectators witnessed red flags and a halt to qualifying.

The Williams of Nicholas Latifi crashed at Turn 13 and qualifying had to be suspended for several minutes.

However, the Canadian driver was guilty of a driving error and there was no technical fault behind his accident.

However, the same cannot be said for the AlphaTauri driver – Jūki Cunoda and his mechanics have to solve problems with the power unit, with the latest information suggesting that cooling problems are to blame. The Japanese pilot did not run any time due to technical problems.

Nico Hülkenberg, Alexander Albon, Latifi, Cunoda and Hamilton – these are the drivers who failed to make it through the first part of qualifying and failed to progress to Q2.

Hamilton, meanwhile, had already complained during the race weekend about the poor set-up of his monocoque and understeer problems.

Mick Schumacher suffered a very hard crash in the middle part of qualifying, literally demolishing his Haas. The circuit in Jeddah was red flagged for the second time, and qualifying was once again abandoned. This time, however, for quite a long time.

After the accident, the German driver was taken to the medical centre, from where he was then transported by helicopter to the hospital for X-rays and further observation. According to the latest reports, he should not be seriously injured.

Apart from Schumacher, Lance Stroll, Kuan-yu Zhou and both McLaren drivers (Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo) were out of Q2.

In the third and final part of qualifying, Sergio Pérez did the best of all, securing his first career pole position with a time of 1:28.200!

Pérez was just 25 thousandths of a second behind Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, with Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz starting third for Sunday’s race.

In the above post, you can see the final results of Saturday’s race. Sunday’s Saudi Grand Prix is scheduled for 19:00 and promises to be an absolutely perfect spectacle!
