It was inevitable, now it’s official. During the UFC 272 tournament, it was announced that Khabib Nurmagomedov will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
The former Dagestani standout is the first fighter to receive this honor in 2022. The ceremony is expected to take place in the summer, with the exact date yet to be determined.
Nurmagomedov received this honor just over two years after he retired from his wrestling career.
Khabib never knew the bitterness of defeat, finishing his career with a 29-0 record, beating stars like Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier. He was a UFC champion, defending his title three times.
The way he was able to dominate his opponents makes him one of the best fighters of all time. His story is completely unique, as evidenced by the video in which the UFC announced the hot news.
“I grew up in the mountains, I practically came from nowhere. People were asking who I was,” Khabib is heard saying in the video, which charts his journey to the Hall of Fame.
Nurmagomedov will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in the Modern Era category, which has been counted since 2000, when the Unified Rules began. His name will stand alongside legends like Georges St-Pierre, BJ Penn, Ronda Rousey and Michael Bisping.
