Hazard’s end in Madrid. The road to the top club is no longer open, the MLS is in play

Deliverance for Eden Hazard or for Real Madrid? A bit of both, but more for the club. The Belgian footballer is expected to leave the Spanish capital in the summer and stop weighing on the club’s coffers a year before the end of his contract.

Deliverance for Eden Hazard or for Real Madrid? A bit of both, but more for the club. The Belgian footballer is expected to leave the Spanish capital in the summer and stop weighing on the club’s coffers a year before the end of his contract.

Football is sometimes paradoxical. Eden Hazard is in fact the highest paid player in the whole of La Liga, for which you would expect certain performances. But the Belgian made his last appearance in Spain’s top competition on 11 September. Not for a minute since.

In total, he’s only played in seven games this season. It is clear that Carlo Ancelotti is not counting on Hazard at all. The club has tried to get rid of him before because of the huge salary, which is absolutely not in line with what he is doing, but the 32-year-old striker refused to leave.

In a November interview with MARCA newspaper, he explained why he didn’t want to leave and when his transfer would come under consideration.

“It’s impossible in January because I have family here, I like the city. But in the summer it is possible that I will leave. I have a contract for one more year and it’s the club’s decision. If the club asks me to leave, I will accept it. But I would like to play more, to prove I am a good player,” Hazard said in November.

And that is what is happening. According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, a meeting between the club and Hazard’s team is scheduled for next week to discuss a summer exit.

A move to one of the top clubs is already virtually out of the question, no one will take the 32-year-old, who has spent the last three seasons just dabbling, no matter how stellar his past.

There is a lot of speculation about a move to MLS, where Hazard is quite interested. Real Madrid are not counting on recouping any of the €115 million they paid Chelsea in 2019. However, for the moment, getting rid of Hazard’s salary will be enough to make room for more reinforcements in attack.
