Hazard refuses to leave Real Madrid: As far as I’m concerned, I’ll be here next year

It would seem normal that Eden Hazard would want to end his misery and leave Real Madrid as soon as possible. But it’s exactly the opposite, the Belgian footballer has no interest in leaving the Spanish capital despite not playing at all.

It would seem normal that Eden Hazard would want to end his misery and leave Real Madrid as soon as possible. But it’s exactly the opposite, the Belgian footballer has no interest in leaving the Spanish capital despite not playing at all.

Much has already been written about Eden Hazard’s troubles at Real Madrid. He came in as the Premier League’s best player, he was supposed to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, only to end up as Real’s worst transfer of all time.

Los Blancos paid 115 million euros for him, plus they gave him the biggest salary in the team, after Messi’s departure, and in the whole of La Liga. But Hazard isn’t doing anything for his fee.

The vast majority of the time he was injured and when he did come on, he played very poorly. No wonder Carlo Ancelotti has written him off completely. He only started 3 games in La Liga and played only 4% of the minutes.

Hazard put the nail in the coffin on 3 January when he got a chance in the cup against Cacereñas in the Quarter-League, but he was the worst on the pitch. He hasn’t been on the pitch for a minute since.

“I miss football. I want to play. I want to have fun,” Hazard said in an interview with RTBF Sport. That’s perfectly logical and makes sense, but then the Belgian’s contradiction is incomprehensible.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’ll still be at Real Madrid next season. But you never know,” Hazard added in the next sentence. And that makes little sense. Why is he so desperate to stay at Real Madrid when he knows he absolutely won’t get a chance here, and he’s no longer at the top level?

If he really misses playing football so much, why doesn’t he go somewhere where he can get that chance? Whether it’s to MLS where he’ll become an absolutely glorified star, or try to kick-start his career in a smaller team in Europe.

It’s not so much that the fans don’t want Hazard on the team. According to reports from Spain, he’s a great team player who is very popular in the locker room with his teammates and constantly creates a good atmosphere despite virtually zero playing time.

The problem, however, is that he is the highest paid player in La Liga and the performances are absolutely not up to par. So he is taking up a huge amount of Real’s money that could be used elsewhere.

And why doesn’t he want to leave Madrid? That’s what he explained in an interview with MARCA in the autumn. “It’s impossible in January because I have family here, I like the city. But in the summer, it’s possible that I will leave. I have a contract for another year and it’s the club’s decision. If the club asks me to leave, I accept. But I would like to play more, to prove that I am a good player,” Hazard described over the World Cup.

But now he is taking back his words and wants to stay in Madrid for the last year of his contract. And that’s even knowing that he will be filling the role of training cone for the whole year.
