Hazard, Messi, Dembélé, Koke. Which players have lost the most value?
The football transfer market is relentless. When a player doesn’t do well for a long time, his value quickly goes down. Which players have seen the biggest drop recently?
The football transfer market is relentless. When a player doesn’t do well for a long time, his value quickly goes down. Which players have seen the biggest drop recently?
1. Eden Hazard, Real Madrid, 30 years old
The winner of this ranking probably won’t surprise anyone. Eden Hazard is having a nightmare in Madrid, he’s certainly not enjoying life in sunny Spain, certainly not the footballing one. Since his transfer from Chelsea, he has been on sick leave most of the time, and when he does play, his performances are very poor. After his ankle injury, he is afraid to go into personal duels and he will never be the dribbler the whole Premier League admired.
According to the Transfermarkt website, his value has dropped by 22 million euros. This means a drop of 55%, Hazard’s price tag is now €18 million. Thus, Real Madrid will try to get rid of the Belgian footballer as soon as possible in order to get at least a little back from the 100 million paid by Chelsea.
2. Ousmane Dembélé, Barcelona, 24
The second biggest flop is Ousmane Dembélé. The French winger has been rather under the radar at Barcelona due to frequent injuries, with the price also hurt by contract bidding. Dembélé’s contract at Camp Nou expires in the summer and he is not going to sign a new one.
His value has thus fallen by 20 million euros, a fall of 40%. Now the Transfermarkt website has put Dembélé’s price at €30 million. He was coming to Barcelona for 140 million euros.
3. Koke, Atlético Madrid, 29 years old
Next in line is Atlético Madrid midfielder Koke. The Colchoneros captain has spent his entire career at his beloved club, never having heard offers from other big clubs.
But this season he hasn’t been playing in ideal form, and age is also taking a toll on his value, as he will celebrate his 30th birthday in two days. Koke’s value has dropped by 20 million euros, or 33.3%. However, at the moment, according to Transfermarkt, he is still worth 40 million euros.
4. Lionel Messi, PSG, 34 years old
Lionel Messi is another loser. The transfer to PSG hasn’t quite suited the Argentine so far, he scored just one goal in the league in the autumn. He scored at least five times in the Champions League, but the Parisians finished second in the group and will face Real Madrid in the eighth round.
Messi’s value has therefore fallen by EUR 20 million, which is a 25% drop in percentage terms. The 34-year-old now has a price tag of EUR 60 million.
5. Marcos Llorente, 26, João Felix, 22 -Atlético Madrid
In fifth place are two footballers who have experienced an absolutely identical fall. The La Liga champions are experiencing a big drop in play and performance this season, only fourth in the league and 14 points behind first-placed Real Madrid. In the Champions League, they had to save their qualification for the knockout stage in the last round.
Both Llorente and Felix have thus seen a drop of 20 million euros, a drop of 25%. Their value now stands at 60 million euros.
