Hazard has hit a new low. Worst player against a fourth division team, probably won’t get another chance
It seemed that Eden Hazard’s career at Real Madrid couldn’t get any worse. And yet a way has been found. He was one of the worst players on the pitch in the cup game and may not get another chance.
It seemed that Eden Hazard’s career at Real Madrid couldn’t get any worse. And yet a way has been found. He was one of the worst players on the pitch in the cup game and may not get another chance.
That Eden Hazard’s engagement at the royal club is a fiasco has been known for some time. But that it would fall to such a low point was perhaps not expected.
Before the first round of the Copa del Rey, coach Carlo Ancelotti said that Eden Hazard was in much better shape and condition than he was before the World Cup and that he had convinced him in training.
So, with a big rotation, he got a chance in the starting line-up, but Ancelotti’s words sounded very bitter to the fans. In fact, Hazard gave one of the worst performances at Real and against Cacereño, who play only fourth in the Spanish league, he was one of the worst players on the pitch.
He may have been the very worst, as he only had 19 touches of the ball in the first half, and no player had fewer. Even goalkeeper Andriy Lunin had 20 contacts with the ball.
Ancelotti didn’t last long and replaced Hazard with 18-year-old Álvaro Rodriguez in the 68th minute. This moved Rodrygo to Hazard’s place on the left and he scored the only goal of the game immediately after a minute.
Hazard probably won’t get another chance. He is currently only the third choice on the left wing behind Vinícius and Rodrygo.
Moreover, the fans have showered him with criticism after his poor performance and are demanding that instead of space for Hazard, youngsters should be given space to develop.
It is so sad to see how one of the best players in the Premier League has gradually become a footballer who struggles even against a team from the fourth tier.
