Arsenal defeated Bournemouth 4-0 in the seventh round of the Premier League to move up to second place in the table. Cherries against Gunners had no claim to points, the visiting team from London remains unbeaten in the league.

Arsenal’s victory was decided in the first half

This season, the players from North London did not show convincing performances at away stadiums. They have won both of their previous matches, but it was always a 1-0 victory.

The arrival in Bournemouth, however, made them forget about these matches, because from the very beginning of the duel it was obvious that this time the Gunners wanted to show more. Mikel Arteta’s charges almost did not let their opponents near the ball.

Already in the 17th minute the skilful Bukayo Saka opened the scoring. Gabriel Jesus jumped on an overhit centre into the box and hit the crossbar from an angle, but the ball bounced right to the England international who had no problem to finish it into the empty net.

After scoring the opening goal, Arsenal didn’t leave the pace of the game to the opposition as they have been wont to do recently and continued to try to play as much as possible at the Bournemouth goal. The efforts paid off at the end of the half.

Eddie Nketiah was fouled in the whitewash and the referee awarded a penalty kick, which was taken by Martin Odegaard. He acted like a proper captain and converted it with ease with a shot to the left post, having waited for the goalkeeper to jump.

In the second half, Havertz scored his first goal

The Cherries didn’t have time to get going in the second half and the referee whistled his second penalty of the game against them. Once again it was a clear foul, so there was no question of calling it.

This time the fouled Odegaard passed the ball to Kai Havertz to set up the penalty spot. The sixty-million Chelsea summer signing kept his cool and headed neatly into the goalkeeper’s opposite corner, increasing the lead and scoring his first goal in an Arsenal jersey in the process.

For a long time the fans cursed and complained about the German because he did not deliver the performance they would have expected from such an expensive reinforcement, however, after his successful penalty they sang chants bearing his name for several minutes.

The Gunners kept their composure until the end of the game and still struck in stoppage time when Ben White jumped highest to Odegaard’s centre and hit the post with a precise shot. The goal had to be reviewed by VAR, but was eventually awarded.

With the 4-0 win, Arsenal jumped to second place in the Premier League, just behind Manchester City. After the weekend, they could drop to third worst if Liverpool beat Tottenham.
