The start of the season has been terrible for Manchester United. In their first two games they lost first to Brighton and then ignominiously to Brentford. Coach Erik ten Hag was forced to rotate his squad.
In addition to Cristiano Ronaldo, the current captain Harry Maguire was pushed to the bench. From the next match onwards, the team pedalled exemplarily and won all their subsequent matches in the Premier League. The coach of the team had no reason to make any more changes and Maguire remained on the bench.
Maguire also commented on his current situation in an interview. He doesn’t want to hear anything about losing his position. “I feel good. I played three good games for England in the summer and I felt good about my preparation. But then the coach decided to put me on the bench and the team started winning from then on,” said Harry Maguire.
The England international doesn’t pay attention to the comments of fans and newspaper articles. “I don’t focus on anyone else or what people say. I’m the captain of Manchester United, so I think people can make fantastic headlines,” Maguire said.
Maguire also believes that he will get the opportunity to return to the line-up from the coach and that he will also take it. According to him, he feels good and he is doing everything he can in training.
But it is true that Maguire will probably have to wait for the team to falter. For now, the revamped squad is treading well and riding a winning streak in the league. The management, including the coach, is happy with the performance.
