Harry Kane – the biggest loser of our time? He narrowly missed out on these trophies during his career
Forward Harry Kane reached a huge milestone in his career on Sunday. He became the top scorer in his club’s history, breaking the record held for many years by Jimmy Greaves.
Forward Harry Kane reached a huge milestone in his career on Sunday. He became the top scorer in his club’s history, breaking the record held for many years by Jimmy Greaves.
The English striker is regarded as one of the best strikers of our time, lacking only one thing. Trophies.
Throughout his career, he has had many achievements slip through his fingers and so Kane continues to collect only individual awards and individual milestones. With the record for goals scored in Spurs colours broken, it certainly begs the question of what to do next with his career.
According to recent reports, Harry is not opposed to staying in London and plans to extend his contract with the club. On the one hand, a sympathetic gesture that shows what the club means to him, but on the other hand, he may well have signed up for further setbacks.
Unless Tottenham become a trophy machine, he will never be looked back on like his attacking peers who have added plenty of trophies to their goals.
Final disappointments
Kane could’ve had plenty of success on his record. He played several finals games during his career, always coming away as the loser.
In 2015, Tottenham played the final game of the League Cup against Chelsea. However, Spurs lost 0-2 in the final.
In 2017, Spurs were once again looking at the back of their unpopular rival Chelsea. In the 2016/17 season, Mauricio Pochettino’s charges finished second in the Premier League table.
Two years later, Tottenham Hotspur had a big sensation on their hands. After a crazy semi-final match against Ajax, they secured their qualification to the Champions League final. Here, however, they lost to another English club, Liverpool.
The year 2021 gave Kane another chance to win at least a small trophy in the form of the League Cup. Spurs were then under the guidance of interim coach, Ryan Mason, who replaced Jose Mourinho before the final match. They failed to win the game and lost to Manchester City.
Later that year, England advanced to the European Championship final, which they failed to reach, losing to Italy after a thrilling penalty shootout.
