Tottenham scored a comfortable win in Monday’s match, and destroyed the troubled Everton by five goals. Cannonballer Harry Kane scored twice and jumped up a place in the Premier League’s historical goalscorers table.
Spurs dealt Frank Lampard the biggest defeat of his coaching career and Harry Kane was unsurprisingly at the heart of the action.
First he was involved in Michael Keane’s own goal, then he increased the score to 3-0 late in the first half and then he closed the scoring in the second act with a great shot from a volley to make it 5-0.
In addition, his two goals took him to 176 Premier League goals, which means that he has surpassed Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in the historic goalscorers’ table, moving him up to 6th place.
“Henry was one of the best strikers in the Premier League so to get ahead of him is a great achievement for me. I’ve still got some goals in me so hopefully I’ll tick off some other names in the future,” Kane responded to Sky Sports after the game.
He now has Frank Lampard in front of him, who added a few wrinkles during Monday’s game. He’s only 1 goal behind the Chelsea legend, so it’s only a matter of time before he moves up to 5th.
Sergio Aguero and Andrew Cole are also within touching distance, with Wayne Rooney in second place by a smaller margin. Then in first (by quite a bigger margin) is none other than Alan Shearer.
He is now 84 goals behind Shearer. “I think it can be overcome. It’s nearly 90 goals, but it’s definitely something I can try to do,” says the Spurs and England star.
kane scored 38 goals with his weaker left foot, which puts him in second place in that category behind Van Persie, who scored 39 goals with his weaker right.
How far up the overall historical standings can the Spurs workhorse go? He could well get ahead of Lampard with his form in the next game. He is now 7 and 10 goals behind Aguero and Cole respectively, which is a matter of weeks for Kane.
First place will already be a bit more of a challenge, but Kane is still only 28 years old, so unless he moves out of England, he’ll be tormenting opposition defences here for a few more seasons. And the Premier League could get to know its new top scorer.
