Harry Kane defends England’s performance against Slovenia: We didn’t get the final pass, but…

It has not been a good Euro for the English national team so far in terms of their performance. Although in terms of results the English have accomplished their mission in the preliminary group and have advanced to the eighth finals, they are struggling in terms of play.
After a tight win against Serbia (1:0) came two draws (1:1 against Denmark and 0:0 against Slovenia) and that is simply not enough for one of the biggest favourites to win the trophy.
Head coach Gareth Southgate has already commented on the performance of the English national team, identifying the main problems of his team.
In a previous article, we also wrote about the fact that despite the criticism, England have extended their exceptional streak. In fact, Albion have been unbeaten in the European Championships for fourteen games in the group stages. The last time they lost was twenty years ago at Euro 2004 against France (2-1).
However, the performance against Slovenia was, at least by England’s standards, really lacklustre and poor. Harry Kane, however, stands by the fact that it was in the last game of the group stage that the Islanders gave the best performance of the three matches.
Kane on Slovenia
“We just couldn’t make any final passes or get a final finish. All the games are tough. We’ve been in similar situations in the past and we were able to improve when we got to the knockout rounds,” Kane said after the Slovenia game.
“Finishing first in the group was our goal before the tournament started. We wanted to be able to control our destiny. I think we played much better than in the other games,” he said after the Slovenia game.
