Hardest bombs in the last game of his career? Khabib Nurmagomedov reveals who he took the worst punches from and what they did to him
It’s been three years since Khabib Nurmagomedov retired. No one has enticed him to return, although there has been talk in recent days of a grappling match with his role model Georges St-Pierre. Recently, however, the Dagestani legend spoke out about who he took the biggest grenades from in his career.
It’s been three years since Khabib Nurmagomedov retired. No one has enticed him to return, although there has been talk in recent days of a grappling match with his role model Georges St-Pierre. Recently, however, the Dagestani legend spoke out about who he took the biggest grenades from in his career.
A 29-0 record, undefeated in his career, undefeated in the UFC, former champion, dominant fighter, and according to some fans, the best fighter in UFC history, though of course most will never agree on that topic.
Khabib Nurmagomedov retired in 2020 after a fight with Justin Gaethje. It was a big surprise, however, as the Dagestani champion’s father passed away before the fight at the time, and although they were jointly targeting a 30-0 career finish, he decided to call it quits after his death.
Boss Dana White kept promising that he could convince the now still only 34-year-old fighter to return, but he never did. However, there has been speculation in recent days that Khabib could jump into a grappling fight with the legendary Georges St-Pierre.
But even that is unlikely to happen. Nevertheless, Nurmagomedov does at least talk to the media now and then, and generally whenever he speaks, he reveals interesting information or opinions.
Most recently, he revealed which of his opponents had the biggest punch. It’s worth mentioning that Khabib has fought Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor and Edson Barboza, for example, great punchers in his career.
But the biggest grenades were said to have come from the aforementioned Gaethje, his opponent in the last fight of his career. And it’s hard to say that Khabib sat on his ass from them.
“I think Justin had the hardest shot. He got hit like when a truck hits you. Only he broke. It was his biggest bomb of the fight, to which I told him if that’s all he’s got against me. At the end of the first round he physically walked away,” BJPenn.com quoted Khabib as saying.
According to Nurmagomedov, Gaethje underestimated the environment in Abu Dhabi. He reportedly flew in only a week before the fight and didn’t have time to acclimatise. Khabib himself claims that he only slept in Abu Dhabi for the first week and that’s why he arrived at the venue a month before the fight.
