Financial crisis, widespread sickness… Barcelona is not having an easy time. Yet after four rounds of Spain’s top competition, they are the only team in La Liga to be 100%. But once again, it has taken its toll. Another key player injured, the fans are desperate.
- Barcelona are the only team in the league to be 100 per cent
- Yet it hasn’t escaped trouble
- Another key player was injured in Sunday’s game
Barcelona have been going through a tough time in recent years. It is not at all easy in the transfer market, where they have to operate with a very limited budget and proceed very prudently. Fortunately, it can rely on players from the academy, but some of them seem to be overworking and suffering from health problems.
The midfielders Pedri and Gavi could tell us something about that. When healthy, they are among the key players. But they miss a lot of games. Last season, even Frenkie de Jong was not in good health and he is injured now, as are two of his teammates.
Fans are worried that the overload will affect the 17-year-old gem Lamine Yamal, who is the driving force not only of the Catalan team but also of the Spanish national team. Coach Luis de la Fuente didn’t even want to let him rest during the national break.
Yamal, however, is still holding on. On Sunday, thanks to his two goals, Barcelona beat Girona. However, defenders such as Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen and midfielders Marc Bernal and Fermín López are out. And unfortunately, another name has been added to the list.
Barcelona report another noticeable loss
In the summer, Barcelona brought in only two reinforcements due to financial difficulties, not counting coach Hansi Flick. Striker Pau Víctor arrived from Girona, but for a much higher sum of over 50 million euros came club alumnus and EURO 2024 top scorer Dani Olmo.
It took a while to register Olmo, however, since he can play he has become a key player. He has started four games, building on his goalscoring form from the successful European Championships, scoring three goals. His last goal came against Girona.
However, he left the field in the 61st minute due to injury and on Monday around lunchtime Barcelona announced how their star reinforcement was doing. The Spanish offensive midfielder has hamstring problems, so it is a muscular injury. It is expected that Olmo will not play for four or five weeks.
The fan reaction is absolutely telling. “Why is everything against us?” is the most popular one. Because while the Blaugranas are doing well on the pitch in terms of results, other things are somehow going wrong.
In a week’s time, Hans Flick’s charges will face Monaco in the Champions League. By the end of September, the Catalan giant will face Villarreal, Gerafe and Osasuna.
