Germany’s lack of form is quite noticeable on the team. World champions of 2014 for the European Championships in a year and do not have to play qualifying duels.
Thus, they appear only in friendly duels and the non-competitive practice does not suit them considerably. They last won in March against Peru, since then they have drawn once and lost four times.
First they fell to Belgium, then drew with Ukraine and then lost to Poland, Colombia and most recently Japan. It was the duel with the team that beat the Germans at the World Cup in Qatar that cost Hans Flick his place.
The German federation is reportedly already looking for a replacement for the former Bayern coach and wants to find one as soon as possible. Rudi Völler will lead the team into Tuesday’s match against France.
Germany has decided to address the situation mainly because of the upcoming domestic championship, where it wants to present itself in top form. However, the current selection has lost public confidence.
And who could replace Flick? One of the first choices will be Julian Nagelsmann. The former Bayern or Leipzig coach is currently available and would not burden the DFB with any negotiations. Moreover, the talented coach was destined to lead the German national team one day.
Of course, Germany’s biggest coaching names like Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel will also be bowing out, but it is hard to imagine them leaving Liverpool and Bayern Munich respectively.
