West Ham went into the game against Fulham with perhaps a surprisingly strong line-up, especially as they need to win by at least two goals against Leverkusen on Thursday. However, it was not evident on the pitch and Fulham deservedly won 2-0.
Moyes’ energy was drained
David Moyes has always stamped a tactic built on solid defending. When he started at the Hammers, given the quality of the squad, this was understandable. But now he has an England international in Bowen or Lucas Paqueta from the Brazilian national team.
“Kudus is the only one trying something. It’s been generally lazy and it’s shown that we don’t know what to do when our opponents come up against us,” wrote West Ham fan Matthew in a liked comment on an Instagram post .
Kudus had hints of chances against the Cottagers, but his teammates did not help him. James Ward-Prowse has also lost his form from the start of the season, Michail Antonio and Danny Ings are strikers without productivity this season. And those players aren’t very productive.
Paqueta is already playing
There has been a lot of talk in England about the potential departure of Paqueta, who has interest from Manchester City and other big clubs. The Brazilian midfielder is now indispensable for the Hammers, the midfield works without him and with him, or rather, does not work otherwise.
“Paqueta looks like he is finished with West Ham. He has been the worst on the pitch in recent games and just gives the ball away,” the Brayden supporter hinted at the Brazilian’s poor performance. He has been in the squad for two and a half years, specifically since the summer of 2022 when he arrived from Lyon.
The numbers prove that his head is already a bit different. In the last six games he has scored only one goal and assisted one, while in the previous 32 games of the season he was there for 13 goals (7+6). Along with him, Mohammed Kudus’ performances have been growing in the long term, but that is not the case now.
