English Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton has won his seventh world championship title, equalling the record holder Michael Schumacher. His Mercedes contract expires in a month, but he says he feels he is “just getting started”. He also urges his potential successors to dream the impossible, as he once did.
Hamilton won the rainy Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday, securing his seventh world championship title and equalling Michael Schumacher’s record.
Moreover, he is already the best driver historically, having just edged ahead of his German rival in the number of races won (94) thanks to yesterday’s triumph. He also leads in the number of pole positions (97) and podium finishes (167)
He leads the standings with 307 points. And in second place is none other than his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas, who currently has 197 points.
The Hamilton-Bottas duo is also leading the Constructors’ table. They have already scored 504 points for Mercedes. Red Bull is second with 240 points and the top three are rounded off by the Racing Point stable, which has 154 points.
Hamilton himself said in a post-race interview. I feel physically in great shape.”
“I want to help Formula 1 and Mercedes on this journey. I feel we have a lot of work to do, ” he added. “I remember being a kid and watching all these Grand Prix, I loved the cars. I dreamed I could get there one day.
I think there will be a lot of kids who are still watching. You can create your own path for others to follow,” Hamilton said of his childhood while motivating the youngsters.
Sebastian Vettel, still a Ferrari driver, also commented on Hamilton
