Hamilton criticises Gasly and other drivers: ‘I don’t understand why they do it like this,’ he says

Formula 1 had its eleventh race of the season, the Austrian Grand Prix, on Sunday 10 July. For the second time this year, fans were treated to a sprint format race weekend. And it was in relation to the sprint that Lewis Hamilton criticised Pierre Gasly and the other drivers.
It was one of the other very interesting race weekends. The Austrian Grand Prix was dominated by Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari after a great performance, although it still looked like a clear victory for Max Verstappen in the Red Bull in Saturday’s sprint.
As usual, the Formula 1 race has its reverberations, now Hamilton took care of the criticism of the drivers, who called the actions of some drivers dangerous.
It should be added, after his crash in Friday’s qualifying, Hamilton started the sprint race from ninth place, whereupon even then he suffered minor damage to his car.
Indeed, there was contact between Hamilton and Gasly at Turn 1, with the seven-time world champion sending the AlphaTauri driver off the track as a result.
In the attached Twitter post above, you can see Hamilton moving to the middle of the track after the start and getting into a ‘sandwich’ between Albon and Gasly. It has to be said, there really isn’t much a driver can do in such a situation and the blame in this case really goes more to the AlphaTauri driver.
There was nothing I could do about it
“Going into the first corner, my wheels spun a bit on the brakes and then I was under attack from several cars. Pierre moved to the right side,” Hamilton said in an interview with selected media, including Racing News 365.
“I don’t understand why drivers do these manoeuvres when there is so much space on the right. I couldn’t do anything about it,” he explains.
But in the sprint, Hamilton also got involved with other drivers. Red Bull driver Sergio Pérez also had to take Hamilton’s criticism. The 37-year-old Briton commented that other drivers should eliminate similar drivers.
“The same thing happened at Turn 3 with the Williams and Red Bull cars. I suffered some damage, but fortunately I was able to continue the race. It was nothing spectacular, but it was manageable. I was grateful to finish the sprint and get one point,” Hamilton concluded.
