Hamilton and Red Bull? I can’t imagine, says Horner. The boss of the Austrian stable also made a comment about Mercedes
A lot has been written about the seven-time champion lately. Mercedes, like last year, did not have an ideal start to this season, and also due to Lewis Hamilton’s indignation over this year’s W14 car, speculations about his possible transfer elsewhere began.
A lot has been written about the seven-time champion lately. Mercedes, like last year, did not have an ideal start to this season, and also due to Lewis Hamilton’s indignation over this year’s W14 car, speculations about his possible transfer elsewhere began.
The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team has clearly not come up with a car with which the British driver could achieve an eighth world title this year either.
And, of course, there is also talk of how much longer Hamilton will race. At 38 years of age, he logically doesn’t have much time to win another championship.
Last season, Hamilton finished as high as sixth in the final championship standings. Moreover, he was beaten on points by his teammate George Russell. This year, he is fifth after two races with 20 points, but with a two-point lead over Russell.
Yes, Hamilton’s contract is up at the end of the season, but it is very unlikely indeed that he will actually leave Mercedes. Especially if he is to become an ambassador for the brand and plans his future with the brand.
Moreover, Mercedes have declared their interest in keeping their driver, even if it doesn’t look good for the team from a performance point of view at the moment.
Hamilton and Red Bull teaming up?
Further speculation has included Red Bull boss Christian Horner wondering if he might be tempted to bring the seven-time world champion to his team after all.
“What Lewis has achieved in Formula 1 is unprecedented, but we are very happy with the drivers we have,” Horner told Sky Sports F1.
“They are committed as a pair, not just for this season but for next season. So I can’t imagine where we’d be able to line Lewis up and how we’d be able to accommodate him,” he explained.
“But I’m sure Mercedes will solve their problems and we’re certainly not writing him off yet,” he concluded.
