Erling Haaland’s injury is a bit of a stretch. One of the best strikers in the world is injured against his former team Borussia Dortmund and will not play against Sevilla. What did coach Pep Guardiola say about him?
He was on a rampage at the beginning of October, but against his Borussia Dortmund side he didn’t feature in the last game and he also got injured. So he missed the Leicester game as well and fans hoped he would be fine for Sevilla.
However, Erling Haaland has to take a short break and will not play in the Champions League in the autumn. This was confirmed by coach Pep Guardiola himself, who admitted that he hopes to be able to rely on him by the weekend.
“He has damaged ligaments. He feels better, but we still have a week to go,” Guardiola said in an interview after the Leicester City game.
He will not start against Sevilla, we have already qualified and we believe he will help us against Fulham. If not, hopefully he will play against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup,” added the Spanish coach, who is really respected at the club.
The coaching staff decided to spare the player as he is not quite needed now and his proverbial goal machine will be needed in the next matches.
City are currently second in the Premier League behind first-placed Arsenal with a two-point deficit. However, the leaders face Chelsea in their next game, so it is possible that we will see a change.
