Erling Haaland has developed into one of the best strikers in the world in a Manchester City jersey. However, Giuseppe Marotta has now admitted that the Norwegian marksman’s career could have taken a very different turn. Indeed, there was a time when Haaland was close to a transfer to Juventus.
Erling Haaland first appeared to the footballing public at Molde in Norway, but made significant progress at Red Bull Salzburg. He scored 29 goals in 27 games in his jersey and performed extremely well in the Champions League.
No wonder he then headed to Borussia Dortmund, where he subsequently spent two years. And the final record? 89 competitive games played, 86 goals and 23 assists.
But he became a true superstar at Manchester City. He sent 60 million euros to the famous German club for him. And it paid off.
Haaland won two championship titles in a Citizens jersey, won the Champions League, became its top scorer and twice won the crown for the king of scorers in the Premier League as well.
The 24-year-old Norwegian striker a real goal-killer. He has played 104 games for Manchester so far, netting 99 goals.
Haaland could move to Juventus
But who knows how his career would have turned out if he had moved from Norway to Juventus. Haaland had just that opportunity at a very young age. Former Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta confirmed this to Amazon Prime TV.
“It is true that he was proposed to us when he was still in Norway. He was only 15 years old and we invited him to Juventus’ match against Inter. We were very close, then some bureaucratic issues got in the way,” Marotta said.
