Haaland, Kane and Bellingham could play at Manchester United. Solskjaer reveals why it didn’t happen during his era
Just as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successors complained that they wanted to bring in a number of footballers who were soon to be among the best in the world, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also spoke about the failed reinforcements.
Just as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successors complained that they wanted to bring in a number of footballers who were soon to be among the best in the world, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also spoke about the failed reinforcements.
Solskjaer may not have saved Manchester United, but he has taken it a step further without any question and has seemingly cut through the previous tragic period under David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and José Mourinho.
After arriving at Old Trafford, the Norwegian coach pursued names that were not nearly as well known at the time as they are today. Today, the trio of Haaland, Kane and Bellingham play one of the key roles in the strongest teams in Europe.
They could have played in the Red Devils jersey, but many excellent footballers have donned it and have not done well in the once best English team. Quite possibly, therefore, this trio would also have disappeared.
“I wanted to bring Erling Haaland in before he even made his debut for Salzburg. Declan Rice certainly wouldn’t have cost what Arsenal paid for him this summer. We also had discussions with Moises Caicedo,” Solskjaer told The Athletic.
“We wanted Jude Bellingham very much, but I respect that he chose Dortmund. It was probably a sensible decision. I also wanted to bring in Harry Kane, my understanding was that he wanted to come to us, but the club didn’t have that much money after the coronavirus pandemic,” the Norwegian coach recalled.
Solskjaer brought a total of 16 new players to Old Trafford, some of whom have definitely failed, such as Daniel James and Harry Maguire, while Raphael Varane and Bruno Fernandes play one of the key roles in the team to this day.
Unfortunately, even after the departure of the former Manchester United joker, the club hasn’t picked up and the current Erik ten Hag has more problems after a very good first season than at the beginning.
Furthermore, the new Champions League season kicks off on Wednesday night with Bayern Munich, which could turn out to be another big flop. On the other hand, the start of the season was tragic last season as well, and eventually the Red Devils got off to an excellent start.
