Norwegian international Erling Haaland has been voted the best player of the Premier League season. The Manchester City striker scored 36 goals in 35 games, breaking the 29-year-old record for most goals in a single Premier League season.
In total, Haaland scored 44 “Canadian points” as he added eight assists to his 36 goals.
The 22-year-old forward equalled Thierry Henry’s record from the 2002/03 season.
In addition to Manchester City’s clean sheet statistics, Haaland helped Manchester City to another championship title, and also to the FA Cup and Champions League finals in June.
This is the fourth consecutive Manchester United player to win this award. In the 2019/20 and 2021/22 seasons, Kevin De Bruyne was named as the competition’s best player.
In the 2020/21 season, Ruben Dias won this award. Apart from this foursome, as far as Citizens players are concerned, the Premier League voted Vincent Kompany as the best player back in the 2011/12 season.
There is probably no doubt that Haaland is currently one of the best players on the planet. The Norwegian goalscorer has already won the Footballer of the Year award for 2023.
Nominations
His teammate De Bruyne has also been nominated for the best player in the Premier League this season. With 16 assists, the Belgian midfielder holds the top spot just among assists.
Also shortlisted were Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard (both Arsenal), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Harry Kane (Tottenham) and defender Kieran Trippier (Newcastle).
