Manchester City’s Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland has been voted the Premier League Player of the Month for April. Several other players were nominated for this award, including Haaland’s teammate Kevin De Bruyne.
Erling Haaland has been voted the best Premier League player for the month of April. The Citizens midfielder played four games during April, in which he enjoyed a win each time.
At the beginning of April, he missed the game against Liverpool, but even without him, Manchester clearly won 4-1. However, he has already started the next matches. Citizens with Haaland defeated Southampton (4::1), Leicester (3::1), Arsenal (4::1) and Fulham (2::1).
Haaland, meanwhile, was his team’s eight goal scorer, scoring six goals and assisting on two others. He scored twice against Southampton, twice against Leicester and scored one goal each against Arsenal and Fulham.
Notably, Haaland won this award for the second time in the season. The first time he was voted as player of the month was in August.
The Leeds native has already scored 51 goals in 47 competitive games in the current season and added 8 assists on top of that. In terms of purely Premier League encounters, Haaland has scored thirty-five times in 32 games, plus helped with seven assists.
With this league feat, he broke the record of Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer, who scored 34 goals in a single Premier League season.
Winning every game in April was key
“I’m really happy to win this award for the second time this season – I’m grateful to everyone who voted for me,” Haaland told the club’s website.
“I’m really proud of breaking the record for goals scored in a Premier League season, but none of this would have been possible without all my teammates, coaches and staff behind the scenes,” he commented on the record.
“We are at such an important part of the season and to win all the Premier League games during April was crucial. I’m delighted to have helped the team by scoring goals. We just have to continue (our performances) until the end,” he added.
Nominees
Also nominated for the award was Haaland’s teammate Kevin De Bruyne, who scored three goals and assisted on four others. Also nominated were Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Alexander Isak (Newcastle), Diogo Jota (Liverpool), Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) and Callum Wilson (Newcastle).
