Haaland can leave Manchester City at any time, says his agent
Erling Haaland has acclimatised to Manchester City extremely quickly. He has scored 31 goals in 27 games and is a major reason why Pep Guardiola believes he will break the Champions League curse. But he may not be at the Etihad Stadium for long.
Erling Haaland has acclimatised to Manchester City extremely quickly. He has scored 31 goals in 27 games and is a major reason why Pep Guardiola believes he will break the Champions League curse. But he may not be at the Etihad Stadium for long.
Back when Haaland arrived at Manchester City in the summer, there was a report in the Spanish media that the Norwegian striker has a buy-out clause in his contract that can be activated from the summer of 2024.
He had virtually the same when he arrived from Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund in the winter of 2020 and his buyout clause could be used by any club from July 2022.
And that this information is true has been indirectly confirmed by Rafael Pimenta’s Brazilian agent, the right-hand man of Mino Raiola, who inherited a portfolio with players like Haaland, Pogba and Lukaku after his death.
In a candid interview with Diario AS, she confirmed that all her clients have the “keys to the door” at their clubs and Haaland is no exception.
“I stand for freedom. I fight for it. My priority as an agent is to offer players what I call ‘the keys to the door’. When a player goes to a club, I do everything I can to make sure he has the keys to the door in his hands. If you decide you don’t want to be at the club anymore, or you are not paid enough, or your wife wants to live in Paris, you leave, don’t you?” says Pimenta.
“I don’t like it if my player doesn’t have the freedom to decide. I’ve done all the contracts in this agency for the last 25 years. Not once has it happened that a player wanted to leave and I couldn’t arrange it,” reveals the influential agent with a portfolio of stars.
However, she refused to comment on Haaland’s alleged €200 million buyout deal, which is due to come into effect in 2024. According to the reputable newspaper The Athletic, only clubs outside England will be able to use it, which seems like an exit route to Real Madrid, with whom Haaland was linked before joining Manchester City.
